Breakthrough Innovations in Natural Medicine: Long-term solutions for health and fitness

Woman benefiting from innovations in natural medicineBy Lauren Bolado

Natural medicine is widely considered to be an alternative option for addressing illness or disease, but Austin Natural Healing Center provides safe treatment options for working with a large variety of ailments including chronic health problems and preventative care. Western medicine is still necessary for major medical issues like surgery, but for many health problems natural medicine, such as acupuncture, acupressure and herbal remedies, can provide affordable care without the side effects that can be an issue with conventional drugs.

“Acupuncture is designed to help a wide variety of diseases and problems like pain management, headaches, insomnia, allergies, infertility and tinnitus,” Dr. Don Zhang of Austin Natural Healing Center explains.

Dr. Zhang is an innovator of the natural medicine field with his research and creation of herbal formulas designed to help illnesses and diseases that have no conventional method of treatment, such as cervical disease caused by the human papillomavirus which can lead to cervical cancer.

In addition to his work with herbal formulas, Dr. Zhang has developed The Zhang Microsystems Acupuncture Method for which he won the prestigious Huang Di Award at the sixth International Conference of Traditional Chinese Medicine in 1996. In order to understand Dr. Zhang’s method to microsystems, we must first understand what acupuncture is.

Fitness Needs a Revolution: Using the potential of the mind

Fitness needs a revolution using the mindToday, most exercises and sports, even those in the Olympic Games, are focused mainly on developing muscular strength and cardiovascular stamina. However, the human body is not just composed of the muscular and cardiovascular systems. It also includes the immune, endocrine, and lymphatic systems, among others. However, these systems are not addressed by most approaches to exercise and fitness. As a result, the current fitness industry appears to fall far short of serving the true health needs of people today.

Furthermore, although regular exercise is thought to be highly effective for the prevention and treatment of many common chronic diseases, and improves cardiovascular health there is increasing evidence suggesting that excessive exercise can have a negative impact on the body and on longevity. Studies have shown that acute, high-intensity exercise causes short-term damage to the cell’s mitochondria and short term muscle damage in the body (Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine, 1998)*

Additionally, according to a review of the literature published in the Mayo Clinic Proceedings**, long-term excessive endurance exercise may induce pathologic structural remodeling of the heart and large arteries. Emerging data suggest that chronic training for and competing in extreme endurance events such as marathons, ultra-marathons, ironman distance triathlons, and very long distance bicycle races, may cause structural changes to the heart and large arteries, leading to myocardial injury.

An Ounce of Prevention: Chinese Medicine Comes Through

Prevention using Chinese Medicine

Many of us take our health for granted until we develop a problem. If it’s a serious problem, it usually means there has been some significant damage to our health already. To address the problem, we turn to our doctors, expensive medications, surgery, or even hospitalization. When we let the situation deteriorate to this degree, it’s challenging to bring the body back into a state of balance. However, if we pay even moderate attention to our health by taking some advisory preventative steps, we can avoid many serious problems altogether. This is the approach of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

TCM is a natural healing system that has been used in China for thousands of years and is gaining more acceptance in the West.
